On January 8, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council held a grand awarding ceremony for the National Award for Science and Technology Progress at the Great Hall of the People. The leaders of the Party and the state attended the event and warmly received the winners and offered the awards to them. Professor Ran Pixin from the State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease attended the awarding ceremony as project director.

The project completed under the charge of Professor Ran, “incidence and comprehensive control of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease” won a second award of the National Award for Science and Technology of 2015. This was a second project of the Laboratory to win the honor after Academician Zhong Nanshan won a second award of the National Award for Science and Technology for the project under his charge “the research on the prevention and cure of the infectious SARS in Guangdong Province” in 2005. This project was the only project of Guangzhou winning the National Award for Progress in Science and Technology in 2015.
