On November 7, 2016, Professor Stanley Perlman from the University of Iowa visited the SKLRD and made an academic report with the title of “Pathogenesis of SARS and MERS: Role of eicosanoids” on invitation of Professor Zhao Jincun .

Before the lecture, Professor Stanley Perlman and Zhong Nanshan, director of the SKLRD met each other and exchanged views on related issues concerning major emerging sudden epidemics of China and the World.

Later, Professor Stanley shared his recent research progress on the action of Prostaglandin D2, PGD2 in the immunopathogenic mechanism of SARS with the teachers and students in his report. The research provided new theoretical support for the treatment of respiratory coronavirus infection, particularly the development of new dedicated vaccines for the elders. The report was concluded in heated applauds.
