The 2016 first International Seminar on Airway Inflammation and Mucus

On November 14, 2016, the “first International Seminar on Airway Inflammation and Mucus” was held at Guangzhou Medical University, which was hosted by the SKLRD, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and the Clinical Medicine Research Center of National Respiratory System Diseases and the Guangdong Nanshan Medical Development Foundation. Academician Zhong Nanshan, director of the SKLRD, attended the meeting and made a welcoming speech, and expressed his expertise opinions on the purpose and importance of the forum.

The seminar particularly invited famous experts and scholars at home and abroad from the field of airway inflammation and mucus research, including Professor Kwang Chul Kim from the ear, nose and throat department of the medical school of the University of Arizona, and Professor Christopher M. Evans from the medical immunology department of the medical school of the University of Colorado. The experts and scholars from home and abroad respectively made an academic report and had an in-depth discussion on such topics as the functions of mucoprotein in the pulmonary immunity, the regulation of airway mucus, the regulation mechanism of airway inflammation related with microorganisms, allergen and air pollution, and the new technologies of medical research of airway mucus and inflammation conversion. The conference was in English in the whole course. Experts launched a heated discussion in a strong academic atmosphere. More than 200 trainees from different universities nationwide have participated in the academic feast.

In the seminar, experts from home and abroad respectively made a special report on their respective research progress and fruits on the theme of “relationship between airway inflammation and mucus and airway diseases” and explored the occurrence mechanism of airway inflammation and the action of abnormal secretion of mucus in the occurrence and development of airway diseases. The conference promoted the exchanges of scientific researchers and clinical doctors on the research of airway inflammation diseases, provided inspirations and ideas for the treatment of related diseases, as well as a platform for mutual learning, exchange and cooperation for the attending experts, scholars and enterprises.
